Nowhere Boy

Category : Movies, The Beatles

As you can see in my headline I am a HUGE Beatles fanatic.  I randomly came across this today on IMDB.  I’m really surprised I haven’t heard of it before.  The release date for the film, in the U.S., is October 8, 2010, one day before John Lennon’s birthday.  He would have been 70 years old.  Nowhere Boy (I keep wanting to write “man” instead of “boy”) is the directorial feature film debut for Sam Taylor- Wood, an English filmmaker.  It’s the story of John Lennon’s beginnings in Liverpool, his struggles with his Aunt and Mother, his infamous meeting with Paul McCartney and the formation of The Quarrymen and their transformation into The Beatles.

While I am super excited to see it, I really hope they do John (we’re on a first name basis) justice.  I’m always skeptical of bands/ singers that do Beatles covers or movies made about them.  Although, I was blown away by Julie Taymor’s Across the Universe.  That was exceptionally done, except for the creepy Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite Scene; which I guess is ok since it was suppose to represent the psychedelic stage of The Beatles.

Anyway, I digress.  I will definitely be there opening night for this one.
